  • Why trying to go back to skateboarding after 9 years is a bad idea!

    30th

So I used to skate in middle school and high school, I wasn’t pro or anything but I got by with a few tricks back then. Well my buddy Derek started skateboarding and between him telling me to start and me remember how it used to be fun I thought it would be a great idea to buy a new board and go for it.

Well a $140.00 bucks and a hour later I was holding my new board on a fine Friday night. Feeling good I started off and wasn’t to long before I got most of my balance back. I skated with D for a while and soon remembered what a workout it was. My feet hurt and I was short of breath but it was still fun. We hit up the skate park and I managed to fall on my ass twice in a row, not taking this as a early hint I decided I was done for the night but I would be back. We skated home and ended up parting that weekend.

So Sunday comes rolling around and I’m a little hung over from drinking, but I’m not going to let that keep me locked up in the house. I promised D we would go boarding today and so I got up and we headed out. Across the street and behind the buildings we find a nice parking lot. I am starting to enjoy myself even though it’s super hot.

I find a sign near a sidewalk that I can hold on to get keep my balance when trying to get my olies down. I land a couple and feel pretty good. I skate around and then I see D riding off the sidewalk curb, this isn’t your average curb it’s about 3 or 4 inches higher. I get the thought that I want to try it, and so I go for it. The first time I go and don’t go fast enough so I lose my board and almost biff it. D tells me that I should go faster and that way I will avoid hitting the curb.

With a kick and a zoom off the curb I fly……    SNAP! Pain shoots through my right ankle and I sickness in my gut. To many thoughts to process but the main one comes through as I look down at my foot which is pointed in a direction not meant to be. Instantly I know I broke my ankle. I scream in pain and curse with anger that I did this to myself. My friend D was right there my side freaking out and trying everything he can to comfort me. That heat of the asphalt burns my arms as I attempt to find a position to stop the pain. I look down and pull my pants up a little to see that I now have a bulge protruding out of my ankle which confirms that I broke my ankle.

I start to laugh as I try to figure out if this is real or just a messed up dream. I run short on breath and try to cry but I more whine than anything. Then I come to and yell in anger again. Like a bad drug trip I fade in and out trying to gain control. I have D call my lady and she picks us up. I get to the ER where I sit in a wheel chair for over a hour and a half trying to keep my ankle from moving. Begging for aspirin the nurses behind the counter constantly tell me no as if they love seeing me suffer. D runs to the store and gets me some ibuprofen and brings it back just for me to let him know I can’t take it. I ask for a soda and we only have a 5 dollar bill, so she ask the nurse for change and they say I can’t have anything to drink. Are you serious? You’ve got to be joking me a yell so they can hear me. Just a thought before but now I’m really starting to thing they have it out for me. I tell them either I get them to give me some pain meds or I’m taking the ibuprofen. They finally let me take some and it helps to take the tip off the knife or I should say the thousand blade samurai swords that have entered my leg.

I start to get weak so I know I’m in need of some sugar to get my energy up so finally they tell me I can have a soda, so I sneak  a snickers in as well. Having no clue why they would keep me from this stuff I find out later exactly why. Let’s just say in my drug coma I get dizzy and throw it all right back up. I managed to miss the pan for the most part and covered my bed so they ended up having to change all the blankets and sheets lol.

So anyways that’s pretty much my story, my leg constantly throbs now but it’s getting better. I have some nice hardware in my leg now. I attached some pictures below.
